A native of Providence, George resides in Dismal, Tennessee. Mr. Downing creates superb electric guitars from parts of old buildings, tools and machinery left to weather in the elements. In one of the guitars featured at Gallery Belleau 2, "Privycaster #2," Downing has used a Carolina license plate and cut a half moon for a sound hole in the body of the guitar. An old iron strap hinge from a barn serves as a tailpiece and vintage Mountain Dew bottle caps make soulful volume control knob covers. Not only are Mr. Downings guitars works of art, they are well crafted instruments that are much fun and easy to play.
